Culture Counts has been on the road over the last month connecting with arts and cultural leaders, thinkers and local governments on both sides of the country.
WALGA Local Government Convention & Trade Exhibition

Under the theme ‘Members First’, 500 local government delegates gathered at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre for WALGA’s AGM, followed by two days of plenary and concurrent sessions. CEO Michael Chappell presented as part of a panel that explored how a civic engagement approach to decision making can lead to innovation and better results for communities. Director Georgia Moore ran a workshop session in conjunction with the Cultural Development Network, outlining how local governments can use the Culture Counts platform to measure and report on cultural, economic, civic, social and environmental outcomes.
APACA Performing Arts Conference

APACA’s 31st annual performing arts conference ‘Outside, In’ took place at The Concourse, Sydney. The event focused on innovative partnerships, examined unconscious biases and encouraged organisations to invite and involve diverse people in their activities. Georgia Moore demonstrated Culture Counts’ purpose built interactive dashboard that allows the visualisation and exploration of data submitted by APACA members in biennial surveys. The tool will enable members to understand trends in PAC economic activity and operations data, and learn from the specific practices of other venues.
REMIX Academy Perth

REMIX Academy Perth explored trends shaping the future of the cultural economy in Western Australia. CEO Michael Chappell presented as part of a panel on creating memorable experiences alongside Hannah Fox, Creative Associate Dark Mofo; Brendon Ellmer, General Manager Perth Concert Hall; and Dr Richard Walley OAM, Working Director Aboriginal Productions and Promotions. Culture Counts also evaluated the impact of the event. Innovators from the arts, creative industries, start-ups, brands, policy and digital technology communities gave their feedback on the extent to which REMIX Perth challenged them to think in a different way, opened their mind to new possibilities and taught them something new. Overall the summit had a very strong impact on its attendees, who expressed its importance for Perth.
