The Town of Claremont hosted a free community concert to celebrate love in the month of February. Approximately 2,000 audience members enjoyed a night of music and singing at Claremont Park.
The Town of Claremont had two key objectives for the event, taken from their Strategic Community Plan:
- To facilitate opportunities for social participation, health, learning and inclusion through programmed activities and events
- To effectively manage and enhance community facilities in response to a growing community
During the event, 130 members of the public were surveyed using the Culture Counts platform to see whether these objectives were realised.
The event involved the Perth Symphony Orchestra Touring Ensemble performing a romantic themed setlist including popular songs by Ed Sheeran, INXS and Robbie Williams. A gorgeous array of retro lounge chairs, tables and rugs were scattered around the park allowing for comfortable vantage points. A 20-metre table-complete with white linen table cloths and vases of red and white roses provided a civilised place for family and friends to enjoy the delicious food provided.
The evaluation findings demonstrated that attendees thoroughly enjoyed the event, with 94% of respondents rating it as excellent or very good. In particular, patrons said it made them feel proud of their local area (84%), enjoying the atmosphere (91%) and the vibrancy and activity (88%). The concert also generated social outcomes, with over 90% of the audience agreeing that it gave them a strong sense of community.
By evaluating Love is All Around, the Town of Claremont gained a better understanding of how their events contribute to the broad objectives in their Strategic Community Plan, providing useful data to inform future programming decisions.
